A recent British study revealed that cranberries, of which North America is its home, help in the treatment of cancer. The study's researchers said that cranberries can work in conjunction with traditional medicines to kill more cancer cells.
They added that 'more work is needed to test the efficacy of berries, especially in human trials.'
The study, published in the Journal of Clinical Pathology, found that when using raspberry extract in conjunction with traditional chemotherapy drugs called 'gemcitabine', cancer cells die more than if they were used alone.
The researchers believe that one of the compounds present in the berries, is responsible for reducing the number of harmful cells.
'It is too early to say that small laboratory chemicals extracted from cranberries have any effect on pancreatic cancer, for example,' said researcher Henry Scowcroft, of the Society for Cancer Research in Britain.
